Freestanding Jib Cranes Without Using Foundations

The freestanding jib cranes are required for the heavy lifting and lowering loads from tall towers and buildings. A normal crane cannot be installed at the top of the construction site, but a jib crane is easy to install at the top of the construction. Thus, it makes heavy lifting and moving easier and convenient.

Why are foundationless freestanding Jib cranes preferred over Normal Jib cranes?

The following table will help you understand the difference between a foundationless freestanding jib crane and a Standard Jib Crane. You will get to know why a freestanding jib crane without a foundation is always preferred because of its much easier functionality and convenience.

The downtime is less than that of a freestanding jib crane. It is quicker and efficient. The installation process is simple without taking much time. The installation process is very lengthy. It takes days to cure and process the jib crane foundation.
The installation and cure are easier and quicker, so it takes less money to use. A sum up to Rs. 2,50,000 can be saved using the foundationless jib crane compared to a normal one. As the installation and cure are complex and lengthy for a freestanding jib crane, it costs much more than a foundationless one.
A foundationless freestanding jib crane's main object is flexibility. It offers great flexibility during operation and installation. It is also easier for a foundationless jib crane to relocate. A Jib crane with a foundation is very tough to install and relocate. The relocation is very costlier, and handling is complex.
A foundationless jib crane has much more working power than a freestanding one. It decreases the disruption in the work. It has lesser working power as it requires coordinating contractors, syncing multiple schedules, and potentially shutting down the production for a period to install it.

Features of a freestanding jib crane without foundation

The excellent features of a foundationless freestanding jib crane make it more comforting and advantageous to use. The main part of the jib crane is a rolled steel I-Beam, which rotates 360o. A tapered flange is fitted on the I-Beam that helps to travel the trolley smoothly. There are boom spans for different heights. This boom ensures safety by controlling the trolley. There are safety end stops for secure ends of the booms. It makes sure that the operator has total control over the trolley.

Benefits of using a freestanding jib crane without foundation

  • Flexibility: The foundationless freestanding jib crane gives ultimate flexibility among other types of jib cranes. It is easy to relocate as it does not contain any poured foundation. It can be relocated to anywhere for working. It does not require any concrete slab as a pour.
  • Easy installation: A foundation needs several days or weeks to be poured and cured. So, a foundationless jib crane saves time pouring and curing.
  • Cost-cutting: The additional cost required for a concrete slab pour is not needed for a foundationless jib crane.

Limitations of using a freestanding jib crane without foundation

  • The concrete floor on which the jib crane is to be mounted should be as thick as 150 mm.
  • The concrete floor must be reinforced.
  • There should be a 600 mm gap between the centerline of the jib and a wall or joint.
  • Soil pressure should be approx 1.1 Ton per square foot minimum pressure.
  • The concrete should be free from cracks, seams, walls, and 3 meters in width.
  • The jib should be mounted with chemical anchor bolts that can withstand a minimum of 1.5  Ton of pull out force.
  • Concrete pressure must be 1.36 Ton per square foot.
  • The manufacturer's recommendations must be followed during the installation process.
  • The system and associated machines should be inspected at least annually for better safety measures.

Capabilities of a foundationless freestanding jib crane

The foundationless freestanding jib crane has usability both indoor and outdoor. It has the capability of lifting 15-ton. A freestanding jib crane has the versatility of moving objects forward-backwards and up-down. The special design of the boom or I-Beam utilizes a low percentage of impact for hoist and trolley weight. The pipes are engineered to withstand the highest level of strength without bending, buckling, or crushing. The trunnion roller assembly can wear the boom.

A foundationless freestanding jib crane is one of the most economical and convenient machines for use. The easier installation process makes it more interesting.
