Goliath / Gantry Cranes

Two goliath cranes. Pick the one built for your yard.

Goliath (gantry) cranes run on ground rails — ideal for outdoor yards and storage areas with no overhead structure. Choose the semi-goliath, which rests one side on an elevated rail to save cost, or the full goliath, which stands on both legs for heavy-duty, large-span work.

LOADMATE Semi-Goliath Crane

Semi-Goliath Crane

Half-gantry crane — one leg runs on a ground rail while the other side rides an elevated rail on the building, cutting cost and steel.

Light–mediumDuty
One legOn ground
OutdoorUse

Best for: yards alongside a building where one side can use an existing elevated rail — a cost-effective medium-duty gantry.

LOADMATE Goliath Crane

Goliath Crane

Full gantry crane standing on both legs on ground rails — built for heavy loads, large spans and fully outdoor operation.

Up to ~250 TCapacity
Both legsOn ground
Large spanReach

Best for: open storage yards, fabrication yards, precast and port-side handling needing heavy lifts over wide, fully outdoor spans.

Semi vs full goliath, line by line

The differences that actually drive the decision — support, span, duty and cost.

  Semi-Goliath Goliath Crane
Lifting capacity Light–medium Up to ~250 T
Support One leg on ground, one on building rail Both legs on ground rails
Span Moderate Moderate–large
Duty Medium Medium–heavy
Needs a building Yes — for the elevated rail No — fully free-standing
Steel & cost Lower — less structure Higher — full gantry
Design standards IS 3177, IS 807 IS 3177, IS 807
Relative price Lower — cost-effective Higher — heavy-duty

Capacity, span and duty class are typical — final figures are confirmed per your site and application on the product datasheet.

Which one is right for you?

A 30-second decision

Run your requirement against these. If most points fall in one column, that’s your pick.

Choose a semi-goliath

The cost-effective fit

  • There’s a building with an elevated rail one side can use
  • You want to save on steel and one rail / foundation
  • Loads are light to medium
  • Span is moderate
  • It works alongside an existing structure
  • Budget is a priority

Choose a full goliath

The heavy-duty fit

  • It’s fully outdoor with no building to lean on
  • You need heavy capacity (up to ~100 T)
  • Spans are large
  • Duty is heavy or continuous
  • Both legs run on ground rails
  • Cantilevers / wide coverage are needed
Rule of thumb: a building to share an elevated rail and medium duty → semi-goliath. Fully outdoor, heavy loads or large spans → full goliath. Send your span, capacity and site layout and we’ll size it.

What every LOADMATE goliath crane includes

Semi or full goliath, the engineering underneath is the same standard — built for safe, reliable outdoor lifting on rails.

Duty-class engineering

Gantry structure, legs and end carriages designed to IS-3177 & IS-807 for your duty class and span.

Overload & limit protection

Overload limiter, hoist limit switches and rail end-stops protect the load, the crane and the yard.

Smooth VFD long-travel

Variable-frequency long-travel and hoist drives give soft start/stop and anti-sway over long outdoor rails.

Outdoor-rated build

Weatherised paint, rain canopies, cable reeling / festoon and rail clamps specified for outdoor service.

Built to your yard

Custom span, height, capacity, cantilevers and rail gauge — semi or full goliath, pendant or cabin control.

Pan-India install & service

In-house fabrication, erection and a service team across India for rail-mounted outdoor cranes.

Open storage yards

Fully outdoor handling with no structure to lean on.

Usually full goliath

Medium fabrication yards

Moderate loads alongside a shed.

Often semi-goliath

Precast & heavy fabrication

Heavy lifts over wide spans.

Usually full goliath

Material handling bays

Cost-effective gantry next to a building.

Often semi-goliath

Ports & bulk handling

Questions buyers ask us

What is a goliath crane?

A goliath (gantry) crane is a full gantry standing on its own legs on floor-level rails, needing no building structure — built for heavy outdoor lifting in stockyards, precast plants and ports, in capacities up to 250 tonnes to IS 3177/807.

What is the difference between a goliath and a semi-goliath crane?

A goliath runs both legs on ground rails; a semi-goliath runs one side on an elevated building rail and one leg on the ground — saving one runway where a wall or column line already exists.

How much does a gantry crane cost in India?

Cost is driven by capacity, span, travel length, outdoor duty and girder type. Rather than a misleading flat rate, send span and load details — LOADMATE returns an engineered quotation within 24 hours.

What’s the difference between a semi and full goliath?

A full goliath stands on both legs on ground rails; a semi-goliath rests one side on an elevated rail on a building, which saves a rail, a foundation and steel.

Are goliath cranes for outdoor use?

Yes, typically. We weatherise the structure and electrics — paint, canopies, cable management and rail clamps — for reliable outdoor service.

What span and capacity can you supply?

Send your span, capacity, lift height and rail layout and we’ll design the gantry, legs and cantilevers to suit.

Are they built to standards and tested?

Yes. Cranes are designed to IS-3177 / IS-807, tested before dispatch and supplied with certificates.
